Terms of Service
These terms are an agreement between you and Eli Tsinovoi, the individual who operates Compass at compass-os.dev (“Compass”, “we”, “us”). They cover the Compass web app and the Compass Apply Chrome extension (together, the “service”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the service.
1. Who can use Compass
You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract. The service is for individuals managing their own job search, not for recruiters or for applying on someone else’s behalf.
2. Your account
You sign in with an email link or with Google. Keep access to that email or Google account secure: you’re responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at support@compass-os.dev if you think someone else has used it.
3. Plans
- Free: no charge, with usage limits (for example, a set number of tracked jobs and of tailored documents and autofilled applications each month). The current limits are shown in the app and on our pricing page.
- Plus: a paid subscription that removes those limits.
- Pro: not available yet. Joining the Pro waitlist doesn’t commit you to anything, and we don’t promise a launch date, price, or features.
We may change what each plan includes. If a change takes something away from a paid plan you’re on, it won’t apply until your next renewal and we’ll tell you in advance, so you can cancel first.
4. Subscriptions and billing
- Price: Plus costs $12 per month or $96 per year, in US dollars, plus any sales tax, VAT, or GST that applies where you live. Tax is calculated at checkout.
- Automatic renewal: your Plus subscription renews automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly period, and we charge your payment method the then-current price for the next period, until you cancel. There’s no free trial; the Free plan is how you try Compass.
- Payments: payments are processed by Stripe. We don’t see or store your full card number. By subscribing, you authorize us, through Stripe, to charge your payment method for each renewal.
- Cancel anytime: cancel online in Settings under Manage billing, which opens Stripe’s billing portal. You can also email support@compass-os.dev and we’ll cancel for you. Cancellation stops future renewals; you keep Plus until the end of the period you’ve paid for, then your account moves to Free. Your data stays, but Free limits apply again.
- Refunds: payments are non-refundable and we don’t give refunds or credits for partly used periods, except where the law requires it or where we choose to (for example, if you were charged after cancelling because of our error). If you’re a consumer in the EU or UK, you can cancel within 14 days of your first Plus payment and get a full refund by emailing support@compass-os.dev.
- Switching plans: you can switch between monthly and yearly billing in the billing portal. Stripe prorates the difference, charging or crediting you for the remaining time.
- Price changes: we’ll email you at least 30 days before a price change takes effect. It applies from your next renewal after that notice, and you can cancel before then.
- Failed payments: if a renewal payment fails, Stripe will retry it and email you over about two weeks. You keep Plus during that time. If payment still fails, your subscription ends and your account moves to Free.
- Promotion codes, access codes, and referrals: promotion codes entered at checkout, and access codes redeemed in the app, apply as described when you use them, can’t be exchanged for cash, and may expire. Under our referral program, when someone you invite pays for their first Plus period, you get one month of Plus: a $12 credit on your next invoice if you pay through Stripe, or 30 days of Plus otherwise. Each invited person counts once. Rewards have no cash value, self-referrals and fake accounts don’t count, and we may change or end the program, or withhold rewards obtained by abuse.
- Receipts: Stripe emails a receipt for each payment. Invoices and your payment history are in the billing portal.
5. Your content
You own what you put into Compass: your profile, resumes, job notes, application answers, and the documents you create. You give us permission to store, copy, and process that content only as needed to run the service for you, including sending it to the AI provider you choose when you use an AI feature. You’re responsible for having the right to upload what you upload.
6. AI features and your provider keys
AI features run on an AI provider you pick (such as Anthropic, Google, or OpenAI) using an API key from your own account with that provider. Your use of that provider is governed by your agreement with them, and any usage charges they bill are between you and them. We encrypt your keys and use them only to make the requests you trigger. You can remove a key at any time in Settings.
7. AI output and your applications
- AI can produce text that is inaccurate, incomplete, or overstated, even though Compass checks drafts against your profile. Review and edit everything before you use it.
- You’re responsible for everything you submit to an employer. Only submit information that is true and that you can stand behind. Don’t use Compass to invent credentials, employers, titles, dates, or skills, or to impersonate anyone.
- Compass gives no career, legal, immigration, or financial advice. Match scores, salary figures, and suggestions are estimates.
- We don’t guarantee that you’ll get interviews, offers, or a job.
8. Applying to jobs and the Chrome extension
Compass Apply reads the application form you’re looking at, when you ask it to, and fills fields from your Compass data. It never submits an application; you review the page and click submit yourself. You’re responsible for following the terms of the job boards and employer sites you use. Some sites don’t allow automated tools; respect that.
9. Third-party services and job listings
Job listings come from public job boards, company career sites, job alerts you forward to us, and search services such as JSearch if you add a key. We don’t control or verify them, and we don’t guarantee that a listing is accurate, legitimate, or still open. Links to other sites, and services such as AI providers, are governed by their own terms.
10. Acceptable use
Don’t:
- access or try to access other people’s accounts or data, or probe, scan, or test the service’s security without our written permission;
- overload, disrupt, or reverse engineer the service, or get around plan limits or access controls;
- scrape the service, resell it, or use it to build a competing product;
- use it to send spam, mass or misleading applications, or anything unlawful, harmful, or infringing;
- upload malware or other people’s personal data without the right to do so.
11. Our service
We own the service, including its software, design, and brand. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use it while your account is in good standing; they don’t transfer any of our intellectual property to you. If you send us feedback, we may use it without owing you anything.
We work to keep Compass running, but we may change, add, or remove features, and there may be downtime. If we decide to shut down the service, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice so you can export your data, and refund any prepaid time you haven’t used.
12. Ending your account
You can stop using Compass at any time. To close your account and delete your data, email support@compass-os.dev (see the Privacy Policy). If you have a Plus subscription, cancel it as described above. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other users at risk. Unless the problem is serious or the law prevents it, we’ll tell you first and give you a chance to fix it or export your data. If we close your account without cause, we’ll refund the unused part of any prepaid period.
13. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we don’t promise that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost. Keep your own copies of anything important.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunities (such as a missed job), or lost data. Our total liability for all claims about the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50.
15. Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because of content you submitted or your breach of these terms (for example, false information in an application), you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.
16. Your rights as a consumer
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can’t be waived by contract. Some places don’t allow certain disclaimers or limits of liability, so parts of sections 13 to 15 may not apply to you.
17. Governing law and disputes
If you have a problem, email support@compass-os.dev first; most issues can be sorted out quickly. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts, except that either of us may bring a claim in small-claims court. If you’re a consumer living in the EU, UK, or Canada, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country, and you may bring a claim in your local courts.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The effective date at the top shows when they last changed. For changes that materially affect you, we’ll tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms; if you don’t, you can cancel and close your account.
19. General
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing a term isn’t a waiver. You may not transfer these terms; we may transfer them to a successor operating Compass (for example, a company we form to run it), and we’ll tell you if that happens.
